"Trauma Trained" training and experience

Dr. Roderick Logan’s research represents a significant advancement in the application of salutogenic principles to trauma recovery. Building upon Aaron Antonovsky’s salutogenesis framework, which focuses on factors that support human health and well-being rather than on factors that cause disease, Dr. Logan has developed innovative approaches that integrate this health-oriented perspective with cutting-edge findings from neurobiology. His work specifically explores how a sense of coherence—Antonovsky’s core concept comprising comprehensibility, manageability, and meaningfulness—can be cultivated in individuals who have experienced religious trauma and significant life losses.

A cornerstone of Dr. Logan’s research is the integration of neurobiological insights into practical therapeutic frameworks. He has extensively studied how trauma impacts the brain’s structure and function, particularly examining the roles of the amygdala, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex in trauma response and recovery. This neurobiological foundation informs his REACH Model, which strategically incorporates interventions designed to promote neural integration and regulation. By mapping Antonovsky’s salutogenic principles onto neurobiological processes, Dr. Logan has created a comprehensive approach that addresses both the psychological and physiological dimensions of trauma recovery.

Dr. Logan’s original contribution to the field includes the development of his specialized assessment tool, the BRAVE Assessment, which measures salutogenic outcomes in trauma recovery. This instrument evaluates not only the reduction of symptoms but also the growth of resilience factors and the strengthening of an individual’s sense of coherence.

Furthermore, Dr. Logan has pioneered methods for applying salutogenic principles specifically to religious trauma recovery. His research examines how the disruption of meaning systems through religious trauma creates unique challenges for recovery and how salutogenic interventions can be tailored to address these specific needs. This specialized focus has filled a critical gap in trauma recovery literature and practice, offering evidence-based approaches for a population that conventional trauma treatment modalities have historically underserved.
